We Believe In Father John Misty’s Cover Of R. Kelly’s ‘I Believe I Can Fly’

How does a musician hope to top Pulp, James Murphy, Sleigh Bells, Killer Mike, Grimes, Hot Chip, and Cloud Nothings, all of whom were booked to play on the S.S Coachella? If you’re Father John Misty, it’s by covering “I Believe I Can Fly” by R. Kelly, and revealing that the “fly” in the title is…JUST A METAPHOR. Apparently, it’s an inspirational song (or “jam,” a “SPACE jam,” if you will) about hopes and dreams, not about cats skydiving.

Shame, but we still love Misty’s version anyway.
