The ‘Worst Band To Ever Play Letterman’ Is A Guns N’ Roses Cover Group

David Letterman hosted more than 4,000 Late Show episodes. There’s going to be some terrible musical guests in there, like Creed on Feb. 1, 1999, and who could forget when Spin Doctors sang the world to sleep on Sept. 1, 1993? But only one group can be the absolute worst, and Gothamist thinks they’ve found them: Mr. Brownstone, a Guns N’ Roses cover band.

But don’t take their word for it. Here’s the group’s Izzy Stradlin, Dave Godowsky.

Why did they book a cover band on Letterman?? Good question. I think it’s perfectly reasonable to say that the best cover band garners less artistic credibility than the worst original band. In that sense, we were without a doubt the worst band to ever play Letterman. Of the five cover bands who have ever graced that stage, we’re unequivocally the least impressive. If you’re going to be bad at something you might as well go all the way and be the absolute worst.

Fair, fair.

To prove their worst-ness, Godowsky says they didn’t rehearse and got super drunk, and, at one point during their performance, “I looked up desperately and saw Paul Shaffer just staring at me, confused.” You can hear Mr. Brownstone’s uncoordinated madness over at Gothamist, but something tells me once they break up, Letterman won’t be the “one man” to reunite them.
