President Obama is used to hecklers by now as he nears the end of his stay in The White House (probably a happy thought for a lot of folks), but he isn’t usually expecting them to invade The White House itself. That’s what happened on Wednesday when a immigration activist found her way into an event honoring LGBT Pride Month and started to shout at the president. But Obama wasn’t about to just let it go by quietly according to CNN, hitting back at the interruption in front of the crowd of supporters:
“Shame on you,” he told his heckler, who was protesting deportations under the Obama administration. Obama responded, “Listen you’re in my house… it’s not respectful.” The interruption persisted, however, and Obama asked for the heckler to be removed from the East Room.
“As a general rule I am just fine with a few hecklers. But not when I’m up here in the house,” he said, as Vice President Joe Biden clapped him on the back.
CNN reports that the protestor was an undocumented trangender female immigrant named Jennicet Gutiérrez, a founding member of the group FAMILIA TQLM to advocated for fellow LGBTQ immigrants left out of immigration talks. It’s also common for those who disagree with the Obama administration’s policies on immigration to interrupt his appearances, but rarely at the White House since the place is like a fortress and you’re usually invited to attend.
Despite the topic at hand, I kinda wish the president would’ve gotten a little more heated. You can sort of tell he’s at the end of his rope with everything and he could blow at any moment. Calling someone rude could easily morph into jumping off the stage and pulling a Ron Artest. Just wait.
