Watch Out Marco Rubio, Jeb Bush Knows Rap Too (And He’s Gonna Steal Pitbull)

Jeb Bush may have turned over a new hardcore leaf ahead of the new year. He joined the undead at the most recent GOP debate, and (by Jeb standards) swung hard against Donald Trump, who wasn’t prepared for the onslaught. Now Bush might be taking on another GOP candidate, but this approach is more subtle.

Bush’s next target may be Marco Rubio, who has made no secret of his love for rap music. Rubio isn’t an expert (since he can’t name a Wu-Tang member), but he digs learning about rap music on Sirius XM. He also adores Pitbull, who (as Rubio has pointed out a few times) hails from Miami. Now Jeb has also boarded the Pitbull train, as a New York Times article details:

Jeb Bush had grown fond of Pitbull, the Miami performer gone global, who seemed to share his zeal for education policy. But Mr. Bush, a former Florida governor, had a question: Why the stage name? The artist replied that a friend had suggested it years ago while they were en route to a pit-bull fight.

“Well,” Mr. Bush replied at their meeting early this year, “good thing you weren’t on the way to a cockfight.”

This was an odd remark from a GOP candidate, but the entire NYT article is aimed at proving how secretly hilarious Jeb happens to be (yet no one will notice). Jeb’s current and former colleagues step up to vouch for his “dry” and “droll” humor, which is lost in a sea of Trump one-liners. Everyone speaks of Jeb as if he’s the funniest man they’ve ever met, and even Pitbull described Jeb’s comment as “pretty slick.” What does all of this mean?

We’ll have to wait and see whether hilarious Jeb will truly emerge in this campaign. This feels like a new beginning for the Bush camp.
