President Obama, Amy Schumer, And Survivors Join Together In A Gun Violence PSA

Following President Obama’s speech on terrorism and his weary address on the San Bernardino shootings, he joined with a number of voices to “put an end to gun violence.” This is the mantra repeated by Obama, Amy Schumer, Spike Lee (whose Chi-Raq aims to be a commentary on the effects of gun violence), and many other celebrities. Most importantly, survivors speak in an interspersed manner, which symbolizes the united cause between this group of activists, which includes Nick Offerman, Michael Stipe, Michael J. Fox, and Julianne Moore, among others lending their voices to the growing movement.

This video is particularly effective because it not only combines the power of survivors, their relatives, and famous folk, but also erases the usual distinction between them. No one here is lit up in flattering lights or stage makeup. Everyone stands on level ground as Arcade Fire’s “Rebellion (Lies)” plays in the background.

Schumer, who’s featured throughout, has been particularly active in calling for increased gun control laws. She previously joined her cousin, New York Sen. Chuck Schumer, in a press conference after the Trainwreck theater shooting in Lafayette. She remains committed to the peaceful movement along with every other person in this powerful video.
