Donald Trump And Hillary Clinton Easily Smash Their Rivals In The New York Primary

The fight for victory in the New York primary has seen a whole lot of hustling. Yet Donald Trump’s the only candidate who’s been staring down near certain victory in this state, both by virtue of his constant presence and ownership of tall, phallic-shaped buildings. He also made a rare well-reasoned plea on behalf of New York Values, whereas Ted Cruz flubbed the same moment by phrasing said values was a bad thing, and John Kasich committed the ultimate sin of eating pizza with a fork. These three unrepentant messes duked it out for their not-so-fair shares of 95 GOP delegates on Tuesday.

On the Democratic side, Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders endured their most combative debate yet. The Brooklyn battle landed largely in favor of Sanders, but Clinton wasn’t likely to lose New York. She represented the state as senator, and while the Bern may have been born in Brooklyn, Clinton campaigned hard to win as many of the 247 delegates as possible. Sanders fans know that she needs the boost with a steadily vanishing delegate lead at work. However, even Sanders’ campaign finance attacks and consecutive victories worked little effect in New York.

Who ended up winning the evening?

One second after the polls closed, CNN projected a win for Trump. This shouldn’t come as any surprise to the Cruz camp, who (according to CNN) did not expect to win a single delegate. So far, results show Trump with an estimated 60 percent of the vote. Kasich follows with 25 percent and Cruz looks to be the biggest loser with 15 percent. Oddly enough, Trump seemed muted in his victory speech. He’s pretty sure this nomination is in the bag, but here’s an unexpected twist — Trump won every county in New York except for Manhattan, which went to Kasich.

Meanwhile, Clinton is the projected winner for the Democrats. She slides in with 58 percent and Sanders reels in 42 percent. During Clinton’s lengthy victory speech, she did take a moment to speak about the Newtown shooting in what was likely a pointed jab at Sanders over gun control.
