The LAPD Is Opening An Investigation Into Bill Cosby’s Alleged Sexual Assault

The LAPD is now investigating Bill Cosby after meeting with alleged victim Judy Huth, the woman behind the recent lawsuit against the sitcom star. Huth, alongside lawyer Gloria Allred, met with detectives for around 90 minutes, detailing her alleged encounter. From The Hollywood Reporter:

Los Angeles Police Officer Jane Kim said the department opened its investigation after the meeting. Huth’s civil suit claims Cosby forced her to perform a sex act on him in a bedroom of the Playboy Mansion around 1974 when she was underage. Attorney Gloria Allred said Judy Huth met with two special victim unit detectives Friday, three days after her lawsuit was filed.

Police had told reporters on Thursday that they would investigate the sexual allegations against Cosby, even those that would be considered outside the statute of limitations. Huth is the only victim to come forward at this point.

On the opposing side of the allegations, Cosby’s lawyer was once against forced to go to his client’s defense, lashing out against Huth’s civil lawsuit and the allegations connected to them. From Variety:

Cosby’s attorney, Martin Singer, on Thursday filed a notice of demurrer to dismiss a civil suit that Huth filed earlier this week. He claims that Huth and her attorney in the civil litigation, Marc Strecker, tried to extort money from the comedian before filing the civil suit. He called her lawsuit “meritless and unsupported” and is also seeking sanctions against her and Strecker.

A police investigation is far from a conviction, but it does raise the possibility that something could be found. It is doubtful, but this is certainly a step in a tense direction for Bill Cosby.
