To say that Ramzan Kadyrov is a divisive figure would perhaps be underselling how the world at large views the Chechen leader and reported right-hand-man of Russian leader Vladimir Putin. One thing is for sure; the people that he flies in from around the world to hang out with him and pose for his Instagram seem to really dig the guy. In fact, he has 1.8 million Instagram subscribers as of the press time, which solidifies his strange internet celebrity.

So when he’s not hanging out with (now former) UFC champions, he’s posting photos of his lavish lifestyle and connecting with the world to paint himself not as a possible war criminal, but instead a sympathetic figure. The latest, according to The Guardian, is that his cat has gone missing. So, of course, he turned to Instagram with a photo of him cradling the pet Toyger and pleading for help in finding it. The translation reads as such.

“We have completely lost our cat. He looked like a little tiger cub. Visitors have always said that he is very, very similar to a tiger cub. Ten days ago, he disappeared. We all thought that he would reappear, since he is very attached to the children and loves to play with them and go out with them in the yard. But now we have begun to seriously worry. Perhaps he is with someone nearby. That person may not know how to find the owners. I am sure that no one needs someone else’s cat. Therefore, we would be grateful for any information. Thanks in advance.”

How could a man with such affection for a cute little beast be capable of the atrocities that have been blamed on him? A recent piece in the New Yorker gives insight into exactly the kind of man that Kadyrov is and it’s a stark contrast to a man who loves his kitty cat. That’s pretty much exactly what his Instagram account is doing for him and in a way, it’s sort of amazing to see how well it works.
