Ted Cruz is preparing to take the stage on the third night of the Republican National Convention, with many still wondering if he will endorse the current nominee for president. Trump and Cruz didn’t have the most positive ending to their once glorious primary relationship. They went from being possible running mates to Trump dubbing Cruz, “Lyin’ Ted” for the rest of existence — something only slightly better than being known as the Zodiac Killer.
But if you needed some sort of hint as to how Trump will handle Cruz in Cleveland, this slight moment captured by CNN should give you a clue. Ted Cruz is at the airport in Cleveland, speaking about his campaign and updating supporters on the future. Then almost on cue, right as Cruz mentions the confirmed nominee for the GOP ticket, Trump’s plane roars past overheard. Cruz has to stop speaking and can’t help himself from pointing out the craziness of it all.
It’s a reminder of those better days of the 2016 campaign, when it was so much easier to dislike Ted Cruz more than anybody else on the ballot. Now he’s just attempting to give speeches and rally support for his return to the senate, in between bouts of crying.
