Donald Trump Finally Admits Regrets In His Latest Speech: Sometimes You Say The Wrong Thing

A very different Donald Trump made his first post-campaign shakeup speech in Charlotte, North Carolina earlier Thursday evening and showed a candidate that seems poised to run a different race in the closing months. There’s a few shades of your typical Donald Trump speech within, but we’ll save that. Instead there’s a need to focus on the most shocking portion: Donald Trump admitting he has regrets over the things he has said.

According to CNN, Trump noted that he’s sometimes said “the wrong thing” and has some regrets over the controversies that have popped up over his campaign:

“Sometimes, in the heat of debate and speaking on a multitude of issues, you don’t choose the right words or you say the wrong thing. I have done that. And believe it or not, I regret it. And I do regret it, particularly where it may have caused personal pain. Too much is at stake for us to be consumed with these issues…

“But one thing I can promise you, is this: I will always tell you the truth.”

This is far different than Trump’s stance in the past year. As CNN points out, the candidate painted a far different position in the followup to his comments against Senator John McCain:

“You do things and you say things. And what I said, frankly, is what I said. And you know some people like what I said, if you want to know the truth. Many people like what I said. You know after I said that, my poll numbers went up seven points.”

This is possibly the difference between Donald Trump going off the cuff and Donald Trump reading prepared statements. It is definitely an odd election when three days of generally run-of-the-mill speeches is noteworthy for a presidential candidate.

Just don’t think that a prepared Trump isn’t also ready to take a swipe at Hillary Clinton and still ruffle a few feathers. Not only does he call Hillary Clinton a bigot, he goes on to say that black voters would have ‘nothing to lose’ if they voted him into office.

You can check out the full remarks below, but it is not the first time Trump has attempted to woo black voters with such rhetoric. It’s just odd that he turned down the NAACP’s invitation given this new change of heart.
