France Has Launched A Major Bombing Attack Against ISIS Targets In Syria

In the wake of Friday evening’s attacks on Paris and the subsequent investigations, the investigation into who is responsible for these attacks is ongoing. ISIS quickly stepped up to assert ownership for the death and mayhem that transpired at seven locations throughout the City of Light.

During the attacks themselves, it was reported that one of the armed gunmen yelled about Syria. The past few days have seen investigations into the identities of the suicide bombers, and many more details have dropped, including a growing sentiment for France to declare war on ISIS. As of Sunday afternoon, France made a strong move in that direction.

The first news broke on Twitter from BBC News journalist Julia MacFarlane, who reported a series of French airstrikes on Syria. The air assault included 10 fighter jets to Syria and 20 bombs dropped over Raqqa:

The French Ministry of Defense has announced what it called a major bombardment of ISIS targets in Raqqa, Syria.

In one hour alone Sunday there were at least 20 airstrikes on the city, according to both a pro-ISIS news agency and the activist group Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently.

ISIS claimed responsibility for a series of terrorist attacks in Paris on Friday. France’s President described those attacks as “an act of war.”

In addition, Reuters released some footage of the French jets that carried out the airstrikes over Syria.
