Howard Stern Is Shocked By Anderson Cooper’s Claim That He Doesn’t Vote

Anderson Cooper is probably someone most would consider one of the most informed hosts in cable news. So it was met as a shock to many when he appeared on Howard Stern’s radio show and revealed a lot of interesting tidbits about covering the 2016 presidential election, including the fact that as a journalist he doesn’t vote.

As discussed in the last segment of the segment above, when Stern asks Cooper who he’s voting for, Cooper reveals, “I don’t think I’m gonna vote. I don’t think reporters should vote.”

Stern and his co-host are verklempt. “That’s insane,” Stern says. “You don’t vote?! That’s like you’re not a citizen!” says his co-host. Anderson just replies sheepishly that among reporters, many of them don’t vote, that “it’s a thing.”

“I don’t want to be influenced one way or the other… Look, I believe people should vote, but it’s not — my role is to ask questions,” Cooper explains. Stern then says, “This might be the most shocking thing I’ve heard you say.” He then ribs Cooper for his decision, saying he’s too famous to vote, and then he jokingly gives up and says he’s not voting either.

In other segments, Cooper reveals that he reads everything the candidates have said six weeks in advance of interviewing them, and also discusses his relationship with his mother, Gloria Vanderbilt, with whom he just starred in a documentary.
