As the former host of The Daily Show, Jon Stewart displayed the most orgasmic reaction when Donald Trump announced his presidential candidacy last June. So, it’s safe to say that there’s a bit of Stewart that may have regretted retiring from Comedy Central when he did. The real estate mogul stood as a preferred target, and it’s not because Trump skewers himself and makes the media’s job easier. That much is true, but Stewart always did so with flair. As the television personality edges closer to his HBO launch, he’s making up for lost time. After a warmup at the United Service Organizations bash last weekend with jokes about Trump’s jet, Stewart’s ready to roll.
Stewart paid a Monday visit to David Axelrod’s The Axe Files podcast with the University of Chicago’s Institute of Politics. And whaddaya know, Stewart’s still got an arsenal full of Trump zingers that he has yet to mine:
“I’m not a constitutional scholar, so I can’t necessarily say, but are you eligible to run if you are a man-baby, or a baby-man? He has the physical countenance of a man and a baby’s temperament – and hands. He is the most thin-skinned individual … When was America great? What is this time that he speaks of? ’81 to ’82? And who took your country away from you? At this point I would vote for Mr. T over Donald Trump.”
Stewart reminded the audience that Marco Rubio isn’t the first person to take issue with Trump’s disproportionately small hands, although the real estate mogul claimed otherwise during a Fox News debate. Nope, Vanity Fair‘s Grayton Carter disrespected Trump’s digits 25 years ago, and Stewart thinks Trump’s always been bothered by the remark.
Lest anyone assume that Stewart is only tossing well-aimed punches at Republicans, he also had a few things to say about Hillary Clinton. He believes the Democratic candidate is “a very bright woman without the courage of her convictions, because I’m not even sure what they are.” This comment paled in comparison to the blame he places upon Democrats for helping “an a**hole” like Trump rise to the top. Stewart believes Dems dropped the ball on effective government, and the disillusioned masses flocked to a reality star. Stewart’s showing no mercy for either side right now, and let’s hope he makes it back on television before the election. The people demand as much.
