Sheriffs Respond To An Active Shooter At Lackland Air Force Base In San Antonio

On Friday morning, San Antonio authorities responded to reports of an active shooter at the Lackland Air Force Base. Fox News broke into regular programming with first details, and the base confirmed that authorities (both the San Antonio Police and Bexar County Sheriff’s Departments) were on the scene with a full lockdown in process.

News4 in San Antonio revealed that the first emergency calls from the base arrived at around 8:45 a.m. CST. The sheriff’s department confirmed these reports but was unable to provide immediate details, although they did post several Twitter updates with this developing situation.

An initial photo on the scene revealed deputies beginning to clear buildings. Soon, they confirmed the presence of at least two dead.

A Fox News’ live television broadcast stated that the act appears to be a murder-suicide (with two dead) and no known motive at this time. Reuters added a brief statement from sheriff spokesman James Keith, who said the mayhem was “over,” but deputies remained on the scene with lockdowns of the base and nearby schools still in place.

The Air Force Times believes they’ve witnessed internal communication from the Pentagon, which reportedly says an airman shot a commanding officer of a training squadron. This detail has not been confirmed by an official Pentagon spokesperson.

We will continue to update this situation if further details unfold.
