Marco Rubio Demands Answers After A Report Of A Trump-Owned Company Violating The Cuba Embargo

After Newsweek revealed how a company owned by Donald Trump may have violated the U.S. embargo of Cuba, some critics demand an explanation. One of the loudest voices comes from Florida Senator Marco Rubio, who said he wants Trump to answer for his violation of U.S. law.

Newsweek reported a Trump-owned company conducted business in Cuba in 1998 while Fidel Castro was the leader of the country. This happened despite Trump insisting that he favored the embargo of the country, but Trump isn’t exactly a stranger to flip-flopping on views. In an interview with the ESPN and ABC “Capital Games” podcast, Rubio was a bit alarmed by Trump’s alleged dealings with the country and said he’ll have to answer for them:

“This is something they’re going to have to give a response to. I mean, it was a violation of American law, if that’s how it happened. I hope the Trump campaign is going to come forward and answer some questions about this, because if what the article says is true — and I’m not saying that it is, we don’t know with a hundred percent certainty — I’d be deeply concerned about it. I would.”

Rubio has long been for the embargo against Cuba and seems rattled Trump would conduct business with them. But Rubio has also thrown his support behind Trump after he dropped out of the presidential race. Will that change? Newsweek reports there are 3 million registered independent voters in Florida and with the state having close ties with Cuba, Trump’s actions and Rubio’s comments could have an effect on their votes.
