When it comes to dark stories, there’s usually some sort of silver lining to find. Some sort of absurdity you pull from the story to feel just a smidge better about the terrible nature of the world. This is not one of those stories.
According to WNCN, A 23-year-old mother and soldier at Fort Bragg was arrested two weeks ago, along with her boyfriend, for the death of her 2-year-old daughter. That’s terrible enough as it is, but it’s what Ditty did in the aftermath of the murder that is so shocking:
Both are charged with first-degree murder and negligent child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury.
Ditty had reached out to Sunny Jo, a photographer in Pennsylvania who creates portraits of family members with their deceased loved ones. In this case, Jo said, Ditty reached out for photos with her daughter earlier this year.
“I felt so bad for the grieving mother that I decided to do $500 worth of work for free because of the situation,” Jo wrote.
The child’s death occurred in December of last year, leaving plenty of time for the incident to be investigated while Ditty reached out for the photographs. Jo contacted the detective in charge of the case after discovering that Ditty was charged with murder, shocked at the reason behind the photographs:
Each of the photos shows the mother in a cemetery, with a faded, almost ghostly image of her daughter next to her. The photographer, Sunny Jo, agreed to add in older photos of the little girl digitally.
“I regret that I’m attached to a situation that is so evil, and is so vile,” Sunny Jo told Fox News. “She seemed like a grieving mother.”
Some would say that having photos rendered with deceased loved ones is odd enough. To create them and then find out the person in the photo is an accused child murder, that’s likely world changing.
Ditty and boyfriend Zachary Keefer are both being held and have been appointed public defenders for the upcoming trial. Reports don’t indicate if they will be tried separately or together for the crimes.
