President Obama Cautions Against Allowing Trump’s Outrageous Behavior To Be ‘Normalized’

A number of people have discussed and given their two cents for NBC’s Commander-In-Chief forum, but the most biting criticism may have been delivered by the present Commander-In-Chief. On Thursday, President Obama was asked about Trump’s criticism of the Obama administration during the televised event and answered that he didn’t believe the Republican presidential nominee was qualified to hold office.

The president has been asked a number of times about the Republican nominee’s non-committal answers on policy and seemed even more exasperated by Wednesday night’s showing. Matt Lauer’s line of questioning didn’t do much to help the situation, but Obama said this wasn’t the first time Trump has shown a lack of knowledge on key policy issues. Obama said Trump’s attitude during the election season has created an atmosphere that doesn’t sit comfortably with him:

“I don’t think the guy’s qualified to be president of the United States and every time he speaks that opinion is confirmed. There is this process that seems to take place over the course of the election season where somehow behavior that in normal times we consider completely unacceptable and outrageous becomes normalized and people think we ought to be grading on a curve.”

Obama has not been shy in rebuffing Trump’s claims and seemed exhausted by reporters’ constant questions about the bombastic nominee. But the president expressed some hope, as he believes the American public will listen during this election cycle and ultimately choose the candidate that Obama has endorsed, Hillary Clinton.
