Watch Rudy Giuliani’s Shout-y, Unhinged Republican Convention Speech

From Joanie Loves Chachi star Scott Baio to General Hospital heart-throb Antonio Sabato Jr., the first night of the Republican National Convention in Cleveland has been quite eventful. Then again, it’s the Grand Ol’ Party’s chance to designate Donald Trump as its presidential nominee, so of course the New York real estate mogul’s campaign is going to pull out all the stops. This is why, ahead of Trump’s introduction for his wife and “future First Lady” Melania Trump, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani occupied the podium to sing his good friend’s praises. And by “sing,” what I really mean is “yell until your bottom jaw comes loose.”

Following a few cool, collected moments for police officers in Dallas, Texas and Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Giuliani launched into his first bout of shouting while giving thanks to Cleveland’s finest:

“We say thank you to the Cleveland Police Department for protecting us. Thank you! We know the risk you’re taking, and we say thank you to every police officer and law enforcement agent who’s out tonight protecting us — black, white, Latino. Of every race, of every color, of every creed, of every sexual orientation. When they come to save your life, they don’t ask if you’re black or white. They just come to save you!”

The crowd and Quicken Loans Arena unsurprisingly roared in response to Giuliani’s louder comments and broader gesticulations. However, they quickly grew somber and silent when the 2008 Republican presidential candidate “reached out [his] arms with understanding and compassion to those who have lost loved ones because of policed shootings, some justified and some unjustified.”

Occasional shouts, claps and cheers of “Rudy!” punctuated the 15-minute speech’s quieter moments like this one, though they didn’t last too long. Giuliani had more shouting to do. Especially when the former mayor brought up the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks against New York City (and Washington, D.C.).

Meanwhile, reporters, pundits and trolls couldn’t help but notice Giuliani’s newfound penchant for yelling at and about everything throughout the speech. That, and the fact his jaw seemed like it was about to fall off.
