Notorious Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio Endorses Donald Trump

The celebrity endorsements keep rolling in for Donald Trump. One week after Sarah Palin’s endorsement heard ’round the world, the Maricopa County, Arizona sheriff Joe Arpaio, who is notorious for his policies against undocumented immigrants, endorsed Trump for president as well.

CNN reports from the Arpaio endorsement in Iowa that the sheriff praised Trump’s stance on undocumented immigrants, and securing the border against them.

“I have fought on the front lines to prevent illegal immigration,” Arpaio said. “I know Donald Trump will stand with me and countless Americans to secure our border.”

Arpaio has gained national fame for his aggressive techniques in rounding up undocumented immigrants in Arizona. NPR reported last year on a lawsuit that said he used racial profiling in these round-ups. Arpaio is also known for clothing inmates in pink underwear.

Interestingly enough, CNN brings up a Fusion interview Arpaio did with Jorge Ramos, in which he refutes Trump’s plan to deport all 11 million immigrants living in this country without documentation. “If the illegals don’t get caught doing anything wrong, they’re not going to get deported,” he said. He also mentioned that he didn’t think the majority of Mexicans were rapists and murderers.

Those differences in opinion don’t seem to matter, though, with Arpaio officially throwing his weight behind Trump. “It’s just easy to endorse him, because everything I believe in, he’s doing, and he’s going to do it, when he becomes president,” Arpaio said in the CNN video above.
