Today in creative ways to smuggle drugs, Australian officials just seized $900 million worth of meth hidden in liquid form in silicone bra inserts and art supplies. This is the largest liquid meth seizure in the country’s history.
According to the New York Daily News, police said that the liquid meth could make 1,100 gallons of crystal meth, which — fun fact — is known as “ice” down under. The drugs had apparently been imported from China, and were found through a new initiative organized by the Australian and Chinese governments. Both countries have recently banded together to investigate criminal organizations trafficking meth.
It’s hard to believe that the shipment wouldn’t have gotten into Australia undetected, since the meth was rather creatively hidden in bra inserts that use liquid to enhance the wearer’s chest, and in what looks to be glue bottles, according to the video above. These traffickers put as much effort — maybe even more — as the traffickers who hid marijuana in fake carrots, then mixed those carrots in with real ones. Unfortunately, that contraband was discovered, too, by U.S. customs officials on the Texas border.
Obviously, this looks good for law enforcement. “This is a devastating blow for the organized criminal gangs that are peddling ice, and it shows you that if you do target the Australian market, we have the powers and the resources to prosecute you,” said Australian Justice Minister Michael Keenan.
