On Friday night’s edition of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the CBS host taped an extra segment to speak about the events that unfolded in Paris. Our own coverage of the coordinated terrorist attacks in the City of Light spanned from breaking coverage of the tragedy to a nearly wordless photo remembrance. Colbert caught wind of the attacks after he concluded his daily taping, but he addressed his audience with an emotional set of words:
“Folks, we end tonight’s show with a heavy heart because we taped all of tonight’s show, and then we found out about the horrific attacks in Paris today. I know not much is known right now. We do know there have been many deaths and the crisis is still ongoing. President Hollande declared a state of emergency and President Obama has promised that the United States will do whatever it takes to bring those terrorists to justice. We add our thoughts and prayers to everyone in Paris.”
After his statement, Colbert faltered a bit in his speech before saying, “And now, we’ll see you on Monday.” Then came an emotional pause and a host on the brink of tears who simply uttered, “Goodnight.”
