Tim Kaine Confronts His Role As America’s Stepdad And Plays ‘Veep’ With Tony Hale On ‘The Late Show’

Tim Kaine brought his entire bag of tricks for his interview with Stephen Colbert on Thursday. Not only did he bust out the harmonica on stage with Jon Batiste, but he also spoke in Spanish while chatting with Colbert. It was literally the Tim Kaine showcase and he even got a chance to toss in some love to HBO’s Veep at the same time — with some help from Tony Hale.

But it was really Kaine’s time to shine on a late night stage, knocking home his status as America’s stepdad and not going out of his way to be too controversial or too outspoken. He’s Tim Kaine. He has Bible discussions with late night hosts and carries around his harmonica. You don’t want to fool around with that. The best part is definitely when Colbert just brings up Hillary Clinton’s health like he just watched Owen Hart’s last match.

Aside from dealing with his internet memes and Spanish, Colbert also had a surprise for Kaine in the form of his post-production supervisor who apparently looks a lot like the vice presidential candidate. I don’t see it myself, but it must be pretty close. A lot of folks can’t seem to tell the difference when confronted with the guy on the street. Then again, can you tell Tim Kaine apart from any other random middle-aged white man? Give it a try and see.

Not a bad interview, though. And it goes a lot better than Mike Pence’s barber shop encounter.
