Trevor Noah Issues A Stern Warning To Democrats Who Decide Not To Vote

Trevor Noah, host of The Daily Show, told reporters at the Republican National Convention on Monday that liberals who abstain from voting in November will essentially be casting their votes for Donald Trump. “If you’re a Democrat and you say, ‘I’m not voting for Hillary,’ then you are voting for Trump,” Noah warned. “Let’s not beat around the bush — not voting is voting.”

Noah suggested that if Bernie Sanders supporters look at the candidates issue by issue, Hillary Clinton will emerge as the clear choice. Noah did, however, acknowledge that the two party system is restrictive. “You are not living in a two-party world,” he said. “There is not left or right, there are varying degrees, there is nuance.” Noah’s stance may seem geared towards taking down Trump, but he’s still sending a message to all those who believe their votes don’t count.

Noah, who can’t vote in the U.S., said that he feels like many young Americans don’t vote because they take votes for granted. “If you’re a young person in America, this is your country going forward — don’t be fooled by the fact that old people are running it now,” he said. “You will be dealing with the effects of what these people have voted for for the rest of your life, which is going to be hopefully much longer than the people that are much older than you. There will be a time when you look back and go, ‘Wow, I could have changed that and now I live in a wasteland.'”

Former Daily Show host Jon Stewart is also in Cleveland this week, where he plans to stop by The Late Show With Stephen Colbert‘s live July 18 broadcast.
