Not only does Donald Trump have a comfortable lead in the race for the Republican presidential nomination, he’s now only six points behind Hillary Clinton in the latest CNN/ORC poll.

Back in July, Trump trailed Clinton by 16 points, and in June, by 24 points. Now, if the general election were held today, 45 percent of participants in the CNN poll said they would vote for Trump, while 51 percent said they would go for Clinton, narrowing the gap between both frontrunners significantly.

CNN reports that Trump has been able to catch up to Clinton by appealing to Republicans, Republican-leaning independents, men and white voters. Clinton’s standing has been hurt by persistent questions over her use of a private email server while serving as Secretary of State. 56 percent of voters polled think Clinton did something wrong in that regard, up from 51 percent back in March.

Clinton has also been slipping on the Democratic side, dipping below 50 percent in Tuesday’s CNN/ORC poll regarding primary voters, while second-place finisher Bernie Sanders boosted his numbers. Clinton still maintains an edge over both Trump and Sanders, as well as over Scott Walker (6 points), Jeb Bush (9 points) and Carly Fiorina (10 points).

It’s still early on in the race, so Clinton could overcome email-gate, and Trump could very well take his schtick too far and implode.
