Donald Trump no longer controls his own Twitter account anymore, but that doesn’t mean the Republican nominee no longer has a public platform. With 36 hours left to go, as one bemused journalist noted, the New York real estate mogul has plenty of time to say and do plenty of outlandish things before the final ballots are counted late Tuesday night. And that’s exactly what happened during a rally in Sarasota, Florida on Monday, when Trump noticed an attendee wearing the ever-popular Trump mask and asked that it be brought to the stage.
“Oh wow. Wow, that’s beautiful,” he said with a slight hint of sarcasm. “Look at that. Looks just like me!”
After a security official handing the presumably screened Halloween mask to Trump, he returned to the podium with the mask in hand. After posing for pictures with the costuming apparatus held at a safe distance from his person, Trump joked: “Nice set of hair, I’ll say that!” The rally crowd roared at the line and applauded the mask’s brief appearance on stage, but the reactions online were of a far more frightening character.
The first responses were built on pure disbelief:

Then, as expected, came the jokes — lots and lots of jokes:
