Watch This Unbelievable LA Car Chase That Plays Out Like ‘Grand Theft Auto’ In Real Life

The events depicted in the video above represent a wild ride that includes two carjackings and a heated police chase, the kind you’d probably experience in a video game. The suspect involved allegedly stole a vehicle and police soon fell into pursuit. It’s from there that the events escalate to a crazy level. From KTLA:

The man was seen driving in and out of traffic, through numerous red light and on the wrong side of the street. He collided with several other vehicles during the pursuit, but kept on going.

At one point, a collision disabled the stolen vehicle. The driver then jumped out of the car and carjacked a second vehicle.

Officers chased him across several freeways before he exited the 60 Freeway in Montebello at Via Campo near Garfield Avenue. Once on surface streets he again collided with a vehicle and became trapped. He again got out of the vehicle and tried to carjack a second car, but was unsuccessful.

The suspect was reportedly armed, leading to police ending the chase with a gunshot. The status of the suspect isn’t clear this time, but has been taken away in an ambulance according to KTLA.

Car chases like this are a rare sight these days due to restrictive pursuit policies across the nation, but it’s even more rare to see such a brazen escape caught on camera. Carjacking two vehicles and leading police on a chase that lasts nearly an hour is something you probably won’t see for quite a while.

UPDATE: And of course there’s already a nastier side to this from the police perspective. The LAPD HQ Twitter account reportedly retweeted the following:

It has since been deleted, but it’s something else to add to the pile of questionable police decisions.
