I think I can say with confidence that comedian Ron Funches is quickly becoming a favorite here at With Spandex. Whether he’s taking on the “fake” nature of wrestling or scoring points on @Midnight by giving a shout-out to the Young Bucks, he’s never been ashamed about his fandom. In fact, he and Chris Gethard should just band together and form the Bullet Club of stand-up comedy. True story, I once saw Gethard derail a taping of The Fogelnest Files by giving a cursory history of the National Wrestling Alliance. (You can listen to that here, it’s around the 45-minute mark. I think I’m the guy who goes “wooo” when he mentions Terry Funk.)
Anyway, Funches is a beloved guest on Conan, so when he got the chance to do the “I Like to Watch” segment and recommend some YouTube videos he enjoys, he couldn’t pass up the chance to send some love to Southern California’s very own PWG. Come for Trevor Lee and Ricochet, but stay for the porcupine having a snack.

He makes a fair point. If you’ve never been to an indy wrestling show, here’s Rule Number 1: You probably know what a dive to the outside looks like, so if you see one coming, leave your seat. It’ll (probably) be there when you get back. By the way, it’s worth noting that PWG has profoundly outgrown American Legion Post #308. They really need to look into bigger venues, unless they’re trying for forced exclusivity. Right now, it’s like a trendy nightclub. If you’re not on the list, you can’t watch Max Landis freak out for Mike Bailey’s shooting star knee drop.
