Alberto Del Rio No-Showed His First Major Match Since Leaving WWE

If you thought that Alberto Del Rio was done with causing a stir now that he’s parted ways with WWE … well, think again. The former WWE Champion and perpetually-disgruntled wrestler was spending his initial time away from the company blowing up other wrestlers’ spots and trying to open restaurants, but now he’s pissing off a new batch of wrestling promotions — including a company that he’s already burned once before.

On Sunday, Del Rio (aka Alberto El Patron) was set to team with Psycho Clown against Dr. Wagner Jr. and Pagano for AAA’s Heroes Immortales X event in Monterrey, Mexico. Alberto had been promoting the show heavily on his social media accounts all week, but then … he didn’t show up in Mexico for the event.

AAA released the following statement regarding Alberto after he no-showed:

And roughly translated:

Lucha Libre AAA WorldWide announced that for reasons outside the company, Alberto “El Patron” did not appear for his role Immortals Heroes X, which took place this afternoon. This despite having confirmed his attendance to the event in advance and even this morning.

We regret the lack of commitment of Alberto, as he failed the Mexican public that has supported him throughout his career, and that turned him into one of the leading figures of wrestling in Mexico and internationally.

For Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide, it is important to offer the best shows of international quality, in addition to strengthening Mexican wrestling as the best in the world and as a fundamental part of the culture of our country.

Adding fuel to this fire of skipping out on his date are reports that Del Rio was present backstage at Sunday’s TNA Bound for Glory pay-per-view in Orlando prior to that show. Del Rio did not appear on Bound for Glory, but TNA was said to be very interested in him after he parted ways with WWE.

When Del Rio returned to WWE last year, he did so without first dropping AAA’s top title, the Mega Championship, leading to the title being vacated. AAA had been willing to take another chance on him, but they’re understandably none too pleased about this latest development. We’ll have to wait and see whether they risk booking him again going forward.
