Chris Jericho Says He Buried AJ Styles At WrestleMania, Will ‘Bury Everyone’

One of the most surprising match results at WrestleMania 32 was Chris Jericho countering a springboard with a Codebreaker to defeat AJ Styles. Most folks predicted a victory for Styles. It was his WrestleMania debut, he’s one of the company’s hottest new stars, and Jericho is a part-timer who usually sticks around long enough to put someone over. The match had some fans crying “burial,” which is supposed to be the controlled lowering of a popular wrestler’s status by the people in charge as a form of punishment, has become a catch-all term for anyone temporarily cutting off the forward momentum of someone on the rise. Sometimes it just means, “the wrestler I like lost.”

During an interview on Busted Open Radio, Jericho agreed with those fans, confirming that he’d buried Styles and would work to bury everyone he wrestles going forward. It’s perfect heel Chris Jericho. Here’s the quote:

“All the stupid idiots are so angry that Jericho beat Styles, Jericho buried Styles. You’re damn right I did. I buried him. I’m gonna bury everybody I work against because nobody can touch me. And everybody who thought AJ Styles was gonna come in, and AJ Styles was going to win, I proved you all wrong. I’ve been listening to the show and you can stop it. All of you can … I’m sick of this. All you guys are mad about it and yet I still won. I will bury everyone from this moment forward.”

Of course, Monday’s Raw ended with Styles pinning Jericho to become the new number one contender to Roman Reigns’ WWE World Heavyweight Championship, so we’ll consider this a temporary burial. Join us at WWE Payback, when Reigns re-buries him!
