The EVOLVE 63 iPPV Results Included A New Participant In The WWE Cruiserweight Classic

Saturday night’s EVOLVE 63 iPPV, the second night of a double-shot weekend for WWE’s unofficial “feeder system” of an independent promotion, had some serious implications for the upcoming WWE Cruiserweight Classic, which is arguably the most anticipated pro wrestling event of the summer.

The show had the promotion’s world championship take a backseat to the Cruiserweight Classic intrigue, as well as the totally-not-a-feud-between-WWE-and-TNA war that Drew Galloway and Ethan Carter III are waging on EVOLVE.

The most buzzed-about match on Saturday’s card was a five-person elimination match that was being touted as a preview for the WWE Cruiserweight Classic. Anthony Nese, who has been turning some heads over the past couple months, was offered the chance of a lifetime: if he could be the last person standing, outlasting the four EVOLVE competitors who have already earned berths in the Cruiserweight Classic, he would punch his own ticket to Full Sail and WWE Network stardom.

Nese ended up being able to do just that, and we now have yet another confirmed name in the WWE Cruiserweight Classic.

Here are the complete results for Saturday night’s EVOLVE 63 iPPV.

1. Joe Coffey defeated Rory Gulak by submission. Whatever this thing is called, it looks gnarly as hell:

2. Cedric Alexander defeated Fred Yehi by pinfall. Alexander hit his Lumbar Check backbreaker for the pin. A RESPECT HANDSHAKE followed the match.

3. Harlem & Lancelot Bravado defeated Darby Allin & Jason Cade by pinfall. The Bravados won with a rolling flatliner. Jason Cade continues to steal EVOLVE shows, as he paid homage to Human Tornado with a dunk hurricanrana using the gym’s basketball hoop.

4. Matt Riddle defeated Trevor Lee by submission. The former MMA fighter and future WWE darling locked in a Twister headlock submission and got the current TNA X Division Champion to tap out.

5. EVOLVE World Heavyweight Championship Match: Timothy Thatcher (c) defeated “Hot Sauce” Tracy Williams by submission. Thatcher is continuing to work his way through all the members of Catch Point to prove he is a “worthy” world champion. He eventually got Williams to tap out to a Fujiwara armbar.

6. WWE Cruiserweight Classic Flashpoint Elimination Match: Anthony Nese defeated TJP, Drew Gulak, Lince Dorado and Johnny Gargano to earn a spot in the tournament. Gargano got rolled up by Gulak to be the first person eliminated. After being eliminated, Gargano was jumped by Ethan Carter III and Drew Galloway. Dorado then tapped out to a TJP heel hook. TJP then pinned Gulak following a gut buster. Nese finally managed to hit a tombstone and frog splash to pin and eliminate TJP and be the last man standing.

7. Anything Goes Match: Drew Galloway defeated Ethan Page by pinfall. Tons of chair work done in this one. Galloway finally managed to hit the Future Shock DDT and pin Page.

8. Unsanctioned Last Man Standing Match: Johnny Gargano defeated Ethan Carter III. Galloway got involved in this match, but TJP and Gulak were able to come out and dispatch him. Gargano, Gulak, TJP and the referee (as payback for Galloway and Carter beating down every referee in the company last month) ganged up on Carter, then Gargano superkicked Carter off the apron and through a table, rendering Carter incapable of answering the 10-count.

For the record, the confirmed, announced entrants for the WWE Cruiserweight Classic as of Saturday night are: Tony Nese, Rich Swann, Tommaso Ciampa, Johnny Gargano, Zack Sabre Jr., Noam Dar, Ho Ho Lun, Akira Tozawa, Lince Dorado, Jack Gallagher, TJP and Drew Gulak. That is 12 announced named out of what is said to be a 32-person field.
