WWE Has Released NXT And Backstage Announcer Rich Brennan

Shortsighted future endeavors news from the world of WWE today as backstage announcer and former NXT and Smackdown play-by-play man Rich Brennan has been released from his contract. Rich posted the following on Twitter on Wednesday:

According to our sources, the release came out of nowhere and was identified as part of “post-WrestleMania cuts.”

Brennan joined WWE in 2014, and his work as play-by-play for NXT became the soundtrack of the sub-promotion’s rise in popularity. That got him a job doing play-by-play on Smackdown until he was moved out of the position after the signing of Mauro Ranallo. Rich was transitioned into a backstage interviewing role, where he got lessons in technique from The New Day, questioned Becky Lynch about her choice of utensils and repeatedly got chastised (and called “Milhouse”) by Kevin Owens.

We at With Spandex have always been fans of Rich’s work, so we’re extremely disappointed in WWE’s decision to axe one of the hardest working and significant-to-the-past-two-years-of-great-wrestling announcers on the roster. Until we have more information — and Brennan lands somewhere in a good spot, which he absolutely should — watch this GIF and leave the memories alone.
