Sting May Not Appear At WWE SummerSlam After All

Well, it looks like SummerSlam will only have one 50-year-old wrestler this year as PWInsider is reporting that Sting — previously advertised for the show and appearing in a promotional role for WWE that weekend — is being left off of the card.

This eliminates a few options for matches that we never quite wanted to see in the first place, like the rumored Sting, Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose vs The Wyatt Family. This match would have protected Sting from having to go 15 minutes and look his age, but it would have been nothing but a glorified RAW match with a foregone conclusion ending. The other match being bounced around was Sting and Neville against Stardust and The Miz. I actually think The Miz and Sting would have been great foils and — I can’t believe I’m saying this — The Miz has become one of my favorite guys on the mic thanks to his work on Tough Talk. I would love to see him antagonize Sting and lose.

There’s still a chance that he’ll end up costing the Undertaker his match against Brock, but it doesn’t seem like Vince and company are too high on him in any way. He might be riding the bench until 2016.
