WrestleMania 32 Is Reportedly Already Breaking Box Office Records

WrestleMania 32 is still 24 days away, but is reportedly already the biggest gate in WWE history.

Per Dave Meltzer, the event is almost sold out with 84,000 tickets out. That’s good enough to beat every legitimate WWE attendance record, including WrestleMania 3’s “93,173” at the Silverdome in 1987. That was actually closer to 78,000, and WrestleMania 32’s gate may be good enough to break the real AND imagined attendance records.

Tickets are almost sold out, and according to sources with access to the direct numbers, the number of tickets out was 84,000 as of 3/8. Unless they open up standing room tickets, the final real number will be very slightly over that amount.

The number breaks the actual real WWE company record of 79,127 tickets out for the August 29, 1992 SummerSlam show headlined by Bret Hart vs. Davey Boy Smith and Ultimate Warrior vs. Randy Savage at Wembley Stadium in London. WrestleMania III was the largest U.S. crowd in history with 78,000 as the legitimate attendance.

If they have 85,000 people in AT&T Stadium, they can grab the new largest U.S. crowd in history, and if they inflate it a little in announcements (which happens), they can claim a believable 95,000. That’s impressive as hell. It’s also confirmation that WrestleMania 32’s going to feel like the world’s most crowded Spaceship Earth, and that everyone who bought tickets for less than $700 for seats might as well be watching from the parking lot.

Still, great news for those who care about the business side of pro wrestling. Tickets went on sale in November without any announced matches, and we continue to learn that “WrestleMania” sells itself. Now let’s figure out how to keep 85,000 people from booing the main event.
