WWE Reportedly Has Very Big Plans For A Current NXT Superstar

NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III once again blew away the SummerSlam card this past weekend, as the Yellow Brand delivered one of their most consistent and impressive cards ever. It appears the Barclays Center is the lucky charm for NXT. The main event of that card (although it will be remembered more for its post-match angle) was Bobby Roode unsuccessfully defending his NXT Championship against Drew McIntyre.

Roode had been the NXT Champion since January, when he defeated Shinsuke Nakamura to capture the title. He’s been doing amazing work as a heel champion, and his theme song alone has made him a sensation, although he’s been backing that up on the microphone and in the ring. Not surprisingly, WWE has been paying attention to the guy, who proved himself as a top star many times over during his decade-plus in TNA.

According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE is extremely high on Roode and they view him as a “top-five” star on the main roster, which would make him a main event player. He might be getting called up to either Raw or Smackdown as soon as the next couple of weeks.

When discussing the possible main roster call-ups that might be happening soon, Meltzer had this to say:

“Bobby Roode still has the Roderick Strong thing to blow off, but it could be that Bobby Roode’s on the main roster real soon … There are gonna be guys coming up [to the main roster] … The tea leaves read like Bobby Roode’s on his way, and he should be on his way, and they’re super high on Bobby Roode right now. Wherever he goes, I think he’ll be top five on the brand, get the big push.”

It’s arguable which brand could use another top-level heel at the moment, but Roode has always seemed tailor made for the main roster. If there’s another Superstar Shake-Up soon, expect Roode to be one of the main names that gets brought up.
