Here are your quick and dirty, editorial-free WWE Smackdown Live results for August 2, 2016. The show featured the much-anticipated debut of NXT tag team darlings American Alpha, and the naming of a new #1 contender for the Intercontinental Championship. WWE Smackdown Results:
— Daniel Bryan kicked off the show by making a triple threat match between Kalisto, Baron Corbin, and Apollo Crews to determine the #1 Contender for the Intercontinental Championship.
— The in-ring back and forth between Dolph Ziggler and Dean Ambrose was interrupted by Bray Wyatt. Wyatt hit Ziggler with a Sister Abigail, then challenged him to a match for his place in the WWE Championship match at SummerSlam. Shane McMahon granted the match.
1. Intercontinental Championship #1 Contender Triple Threat: Apollo Crews defeated Baron Corbin and Kalisto.
Crew rolled up Kalisto for the win. After the match, Corbin continued to attack Kalisto. Crews tried for the save, but was interrupted by a Skull Crushing Finale from The Miz. Corbin then planted Miz with the End of Days.
2. Becky Lynch versus Eva Marie ended in a no contest. Eva Marie faked a knee injury causing the referee to discontinue the match.
3. American Alpha defeated The Vaudevillains. American Alpha got the win in their debut with a Grand Amplitude to Aidan English.
— AJ Styles challenged John Cena to a match at SummerSlam. Cena accepted, saying he ‘needs to teach AJ’s ass a lesson.’
4. Randy Orton defeated Fandango. Orton picked up a DQ victory after he was F5ed by Lesnar during his match. Lesnar was then escorted out of the building by security.
5. Dolph Ziggler defeated Bray Wyatt. Ziggler retained his spot in the WWE Championship match at SummerSlam after ramming Wyatt’s head into an exposed turnbuckle, then finishing him off with a superkick. After the match, Ziggler was attacked by Erick Rowan. Dean Ambrose ran in for the save, but both men ended up getting laid out by Rowan and Wyatt.
