That’s right, as of today, the exciting, anything can happen, social media and youth-obsessed WWE is officially being run by a septuagenarian. Of course, Vince McMahon has kind of been a crazy old man for most of his on-screen career, and, even at age 70, he still looks like this

… so maybe age is just a number. Still, it’s a pretty big milestone.

Vince McMahon was born on this day in 1945 in the small city of Pinehurst, N.C. Vince’s father, WWF founder Vince McMahon, Sr., left the family when Vince, Jr. was only a baby, and so he spent most of his childhood living in a trailer park near the Marines airbase in Havelock, N.C. Eventually, Vince, Jr. would reconnect with dear old Dad, and rise through the ranks of the WWF, eventually buying the company from his father in 1982 at the age of 37. Vince quickly installed Hulk Hogan as his perennial champ in 1984, and began aggressively expanding into other promotions’ territories. It was touch an go for a while, but the success of the first WrestleMania legitimized Vince’s vision of pro wrestling, and it was mostly uphill from there. WWE hasn’t released any word on a Vince McMahon birthday celebration for tonight’s Raw. Hopefully something’s in the works, because there ain’t no party like a Vince McMahon party.
