Ab-Soul’s ‘D.R.U.G.S.’ Video Gives Us One More Reason To Anticipate His New Album’s Arrival

Whether Soulo Season is actually a real thing or something imagined, we’re in the midst of it, despite how short it may be. Just days ago, Top Dawg Entertainment announced DWTW, the follow-up to 2014’s These Days, would be releasing this Friday, December 9th. And in anticipation of the project’s arrival, they’ve released a new song and video titled “D.R.U.G.S.,” a hallucinating journey into the world of Ab.

The video uses the familiar black and white aesthetic seen on “Huey Knew” and others, but the song’s content is darker, even moreso than usual for Soul. He spends his time here describing the world of substances he indulges in, fighting the balance between pure fun and the dangers associated with them (“Cause last but not least I love drugs, I love drugs, I can’t help myself, I think I need some help“) Sober thoughts remind him of how much his loved ones mean to him and the clip snaps back to reality at the end with a phone call with a loved one.

And after weeks and days spent hashtagging DWTW for the album title, TDE finally shares what the acronym stands for: Do What Thou Wilt. There you have it, mystery solved. The project’s officially up on iTunes for everyone to take full advantage of the pre-order with instant grat downloads for the previously released songs “Huey Knew” and “Braille” with Bas. Do What Thou Wilt with that info, but may we suggest going ahead and reserving a copy.
