Akon Shared Some Very Suspect Views On Men And Women After The BET Awards

In the wake of receiving the Global Good Award at the 2016 BET Awards, you would think that Akon would have a lot to say about the positive changes we’re capable of making in the world. Welp, instead of that, the Senegalese-American singer used the platform to share some very suspect theories on the relationship between men and women and double down on a questionable statement from 2013 that men are “natural breeders.”

On his appearance with Hollywood Today Live, he was asked about the sexes and said:
“Why is it that every woman in the world is going through the exact same problem with a man? Just think about it. It’s not a coincidence, it’s just who we are. I always believed that if women took the time to understand men, you literally would run the world. The only reason why men are dominant is because we know more about women than women know about men.”

Akon also proved he’s not a demographer when he dropped some math to back up his claims.

“Let’s think about it. We are outnumbered 15 to 1. They are clearly smarter than we are, and you execute a lot quicker and faster more than we do. So how is it that we run the world?” he said.

The man who famously signed Lady Gaga (but famously passed on signing Drake) then added that male and female lions don’t get into spats over the male lion going out and breeding with as many lionesses as possible.

“She knows her role, the guy knows his role, and that’s their understanding,” he said. “Society would create these rules without taking nature into account.”

The whole back-and-forth is up top and it’s worth a view just for Akon’s lion imitation alone.
