Chance The Rapper is set to become Chance The Bad Guy for 2017. That’s because he’s set to star in a new film called Slice, written and directed by longtime collaborator Austin Vesely, the same friend who’s directed nearly all of Chano’s videos.
Chance previewed a very short teaser from the film on Halloween in which he’s seen putting on a helmet and speeding off on a motorcycle. Right, there’s not a ton to go by from the clip. According to IMDb, the plot boils down to this: “When a pizza delivery driver is murdered on the job, the city searches for someone to blame: ghosts? drug dealers? a disgraced werewolf.”

The werewolf’s name is Dax Lycander, an “enigmatic outlaw framed for a killing spree that targets unsuspecting pizza delivery boys,” per The Hollywood Reporter. It’s the first we’ve seen or heard of the flick since they teased out the character poster last summer.

The story is the brainchild of Vesely and it’s been three years in the works as he’s continued to expand upon the original story. As part of Chance’s small but talented circle of friends, Vesely didn’t have to beg the MC to be involved at all. “Being friends and colleagues with Chance the Rapper was cool because he’s interested in movies too,” he told RedEye Chicago last summer. “He basically told me that when the time comes that I could make something, he’d be there for me.”
He continued, “So I wrote a role for him in the piece. While he wasn’t involved in the writing up to this point, I told him what the general idea of the role I had for him was, and he was cool with that.”
Slice will be released by A24, the same company with Moonlight in theaters right now. The film itself was based around George Saunders’ novella “CivilWarLand In Bad Decline” and Chance’s character takes part of his inspiration from Orson Welles’ character in the 1949 film The Third Man, per Vesely.

While it will be his first full length, this won’t be Chance’s first acting role. In 2015, he starred in Mr. Happy, the short film directed by Colin Tilly.
