DJ Khaled‘s “major keys” have opened countless doors for the 40-year-old producer since their inception. The “For Free” artist’s viral social media attention propelled him to a whole new level of A-list fame and unlocked opportunities from going on tour with Queen Bey, authoring a book to even dropping his first No. 1 album appropriately titled Major Key.
Continuing to ride this wave of stardom that began on SnapChat, on Tuesday night, DJ Khaled had the opportunity to host the 2016 BET Awards. Not only was Khaled the night’s go to man, he also took home awards for DJ of the Year, MVP of the Year and finally, Hustler of the Year. However, not stopping there, immediately following the show, Khaled dropped a fresh new music video for his single “Do You Mind” off Major Key which he’d previously been teasing on Instagram.
Mirroring the massive rolodex of stars who attended the BET Awards, the video for “Do You Mind” functions as a who’s who in hip hop right now. Featuring Nicki Minaj, Future, Rick Ross, Jeremih, Chris Brown and August Alsina, the only people seemingly absent from the vid are Oprah Winfrey and the Pope.
Directed by Gil Green, “Do You Mind” opens with a quintessential breakup scene where we see DJ Khaled’s love interest, played by model Bernice Burgos, throwing clothes along with Khaled’s phone over a balcony. She then storms off which quickly bleeds into the vid’s lead tapping on an ivory piano, beginning the tune.
The rest of the visuals are everything DJ Khaled fans could ever ask for including seeing him getting fanned with stacks of hundred dollar bills, riding around a pool in a jet ski and donning a robe with an embroidered key on the back.
The clip also boasts a plethora of scantily-clad women draped over the video’s slew of male leads and seen laying around the various grandiose set locations in sensuous poses.
The almost 6 minute long work ends in resolution with Khaled gifting Burgos an extravagant necklace and asserting, “No words can describe how beautiful you are. You’re a major key to me, baby.”
Who says chivalry is dead?
