Eminem Really Wasn’t Joking About Having OCD On ‘The Monster’

It had been two months since Eminem logged into his Genius account to reveal that he actually couldn’t hear the snare in his headphones while recording “Cleanin’ Out My Closet,” but it seems like he had the downtime on Wednesday to log in again. While most of his 14 annotations were a mixture of insight into his lyrics and expressions of his goofy humor, one stood out for its seriousness because he once again claimed to have OCD, or Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.

Eminem’s official annotation for “The Monster,” his 2013 hit featuring Rihanna, stated, “I really do have OCD. It’s not funny, b*tch,” in reference to the following lines:

“‘Cause the very thing that I love’s killing me
And I can’t conquer it
My OCD is conking me in the head, keep knocking”

The 43-year-old rapper has made the same claim in the past during a 2013 Rolling Stone cover story, stating that he obsessed over the minimal amount of decibels while “f*cking with the drums on the mixing board for two hours” when “probably no one hears the difference.” However, when pushed by the interview, he admitted it’s self-diagnosed.

Eminem also expressed his love for ’90s cartoon Ren and Stimpy and the movie Superbad while also poking fun at people’s suggestions for album names over the years, stating, “I don’t know why people have suggested I name my next album Empower or Empart… If I were to name an album with such a stupid play on my name, it obviously should be called Empanada.”
