Kid Cudi’s ‘Surfin” Video Is A Drama-Free, Good Time

In case anyone lost sight of the fact, Kid Cudi’s got a new album on the way and he’s just released the video for “Surfin'” as a gentle reminder. The visual’s a colorful, charged counterpart to the upbeat nature of the Pharrell-produced song and Cudi’s not alone. Friends from all around make cameos in the clip as A$AP Rocky, A$AP Nast, Jaden Smith, Willow Smith, Chip the Ripper, Hit-Boy, and more join Cudi in dancing around carefree as can be. It’s like his version of Gucci’s “All My Children” in a sense since a good many of his influential offspring join him in celebrating the wave he’s created.

Of course, the new video comes as Kid Cudi’s name stays in the news due to him entering into rehab and into a back-and-forth with Drake at almost the same time. Most recently, one interesting wrinkle was added to the plot when it comes to his beef with Drake. As we learned over the weekend, Cudi’s good friend Kanye, the one who has shown him tremendous support during his battle against addiction and depression, had a hand in the creation of Drake’s diss track, “Two Birds, One Stone.” Andddd, also saw Cudi poke his head in on Twitter to take a jab at Drake, which was later followed by Lupe Fiasco unleashing hell’s fury aimed Cudi’s way. Yeah, things got pretty hectic in a matter of days.

It’s still unclear when his new LP, Passion, Pain, and Demon Slayin’, will release but Cudi’s management and label are holding him down with promo, as he promised. But, maybe it’s not too far off from dropping since he’s promised he’ll be out of rehab to perform at a festival this weekend. If so, “Surfin'” has just the right vibe needed to give the project a boost in anticipation.
