Killer Mike of Run the Jewels told Hip Hop Wired on Friday that he hopes to complete the group’s third album sooner rather than later.
“I would like to be finished by July 7,” the Atlanta rapper said. “I would like to ball on the 4th. I think we’ll be done real soon. People know when we say soon, we’re trying to get it out. We want it out this year.”
Mike added that he thinks the new material will “touch your soul.” According to him, Run the Jewels 3 will be “harder, darker, meaner, angry.” As for a guest artist on the album, Mike and El-P want “one big feature” that they’re currently waiting on, but he understandably couldn’t share any further details. He also said the project will be short and sweet — and of course, there are plans for another tour.
Run the Jewels have already shared a few snippets from RT3 to build up anticipation, and the interview only fans the flames. At least there’s a collaboration with DJ Shadow called “Nobody Speak” to whet fan’s appetites in the meantime. Check out their recent performance of the song on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, which Killer Mike dedicated to “all the victims of violence from Chicago to Orlando.”
