what lupe is doing is wrong here. kendrick is trynna to say rap needs to be broader in its sense of what an emcee says on the mic and if u cant do it like we do,sit down and stfu, no matter what it is you choose to say. Like in rock and roll, you have people who make good songs, and people who make good songs and are ridiculously talented at playing their instruments, ex Jimi Hendricks, ginger bhaker, what seems like every great jazz musician. lupe is trynna say fuck anyone who raps to show their skills at it and the reasons for which LUPE raps matter and all others forms of this art are null and void. this guy is FUCKING HUBRIS. hip hop is big enough for every aspect of it and kendrick made lyrics at the forefront for how ever long this wave last, which is hopefully longer then the last few stints we’ve had to endure since the last good verse. that being said, will we hear a bunch of overall wack responses, some with a few good lines? i guarantee it. but maybe, just maybe, being able to fucking rhyme will be a precedent in rap that has to be met again for those we keep in the conversation of being “great”. the man said he set the bar high, its up to the fans to help keep it there.

Have some respect, this Kendrick guy is good but on lyrical scale content wise he’s average. That Control verse period was average, the controversy came from him name dropping lol. Lupe challenges you to think, but all nigga’s to busy dick riding the next hype. I still do not see something that puts him at the forefront. I remember when Charles Hamilton had that chump on the lyrics block.

As Wasulu stated yall are easily impressed. Kendrick is nice but he is overhyped. Its arguable that he is even the nicest out of these new generation of rappers because J. Cole is serious. It isn’t hard to shine when you playing field is subpar. People want to crown Kendrick and overlook all those that are just as nice if not nicer than Kendrick. Out of my generation, Lupe is that dude. Album sales, radio spins, meaningless awards are for the surface rap fan. If we’re talking about hip-hop, then we’re talking about substance. These new rappers aren’t even close. Dont be sheep.

i fucks with this. kendrick is indeed a beast and the control verse was not even his best verse. ppl shoulda been this hype off of his album instead of this verse. but the way rap fans are these days, the name dropping grabbed headlines. it was a brilliant move. now every rapper in the game is essentially promoting kendricks new album. he is the talk of the town, not because of how nice he is, but because of name dropping. its a shame it had to happen like that, but i’ll take it.

@will, im not denying lupes lyrical ability or relevance. the cool is one of the only hip hop albums i still listen to regularly that came out in the best decade or so. but im not a fan his mightier than thou attitude towards everything that he speaks about. u know how u become the best in the game? its by having the best album, with the best music, which is in of itself subjective i understand. but lupe needs to hop off twitter and this publicity stunt that has nothing to do with him and continue to work on his craft. lupes not from new work and and isnt a name in the verse, which was just kendrick rhyming its not the be all end all. kendrick knows lupe is in a different tier, based on longevity alone. bit no matter how good u think u are, never become complacent, especially in music and more so in hip hop.

Lupe = Don Lemon of Rap

Lupe is one of Kendrick Lamar’s lyrical peers. Honestly, I will say Lupe is more lyrical because on top of elite lyricism, he always have countless double and triple entendres.

It’s been noted before, but Lupe’s verses regularly go over peoples heads. Hell, I had to listen to it more than once just to make sure I heard everything I thought I heard.

He called Kendrick a baby to Jay and Nas because he only has one album and trying to compare himself. Bananas are loved by apes, he calls Kendrick bananas do he knows who he is this planet with (Planet of the Apes). I could break down the rest but those who said this was wack keep rewinding it.
