Premiere: Oxymorrons Bend Genres And Blend Cultures On The Soulful Rager ‘What’s My Name’

Do you like the Black Keys? Do you like Run The Jewels? How about Rage Against The Machine or TV On The Radio? If you answered yet to any of these questions, then chances are you are going to dig Oxymorrons.

Even with so many different touchstones, the quintet from New York has a vibe totally unique to themselves. Vocalists Demi and Kami rap and sing over an eclectic range of different sounds and styles put together by guitarist Mr. November, bassist Jiggity, and especially the drummer Matty Mayz who knocks his kit with a John Bonham-level of bombast. The group put out one album last year, the nine-track Complex But Basic, and are primed to make waves in 2017, beginning with the new single “What’s My Name,” which we’re premiering today.

“What’s My Name” is a stomping mishmash of hip-hop, blues, soul and rock. It opens with a discordant twist of megaphone-delivered vocals over a snappy, snare-driven beat before blasting into heavy, horn-inflected rhythm through he body. “’Whats My Name’ is a sonic representation of our unapologetic lifestyle,” vocalist Demi said. “Growing up we were influenced by rock, hip hop and many other genres, not just musically but also in our daily lives. Being genre-bending, culture-blending masterminds is simply who we are and we wanted to ensure you never forget our name.”
