The Drink Champs podcast guest of the week is Havoc from Mobb Deep, and he has one heck of a story to share. Since Prince’s death, it feels everyone has a “Prince” story to tell. Havoc offered up his when he told the hosts about a Mobb Deep studio session that Prince walked in on. The song Prince’s impromptu assist was featured on is “Thou Shall Not Kill” featuring Snoop Dogg:

“They were in the studio recording when someone notice Prince was also in the building. I was making the beat, and then I was like ‘Holy shit, Prince.’ Then, I was like ‘Is there anything I need to do to the beat?’ He was like ‘Hold on’ and then he got on the keyboard and just started…He was that cool,” Havoc said. Of course, the only thing left to do was for Snoop to rap over the Prince-assisted beat. After everything, “Prince walked out and didn’t even say bye.”

The visual of Prince walking in, sitting down at the keyboard, adding some heat to the song, and leaving without saying a word, sounds exactly like something that Prince would do.

Havoc also spoke with hosts N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN “about past misunderstandings between Mobb Deep and CNN, a possible Queens tour…working with Kanye West and more.” Click here to get the full episode a listen.
