R. Kelly’s ‘Trapped In The Closet’ Is Being Eyed For An Apple Music Rebirth

Apple Music is musing a return to the closet. Specifically R. Kelly’s sin-stuffed masterwork of a closet.

Tucked in a Bloomberg Businessweek profile of Jimmy Iovine’s Apple Music plans is a gentle mention of the goal of bringing more Trapped in the Closet chapters to the service. For those too young to remember (or just plain missed it), Kelly captured the internet’s imagination with an addictively decadent modern opera that was equipped with videos that were just as engaging as the sex and lies of laid out in the songs. Francis Ford Coppola labeled Trapped in the Closet as “incredible,” if that works as an endorsement.

Here’s the Iovine tidbit nestled beside alongside a note about the planned Dr. Dre TV series that’s still on the way.

For the moment, he’s mostly focused on music-related video, including a possible sequel to R. Kelly’s rap opera Trapped in the Closet. Iovine has had talks with Warner Bros. Television and is developing another show loosely based on the life of his longtime business partner Dr. Dre.

That all sounds promising, doesn’t it? Kells has pointed out that he has lots of ideas to keep the Closet saga going so things should be safe on that end of the equation. In 2016, the “Happy People” hitmaker noted that he had 35 chapters complete when chatting with the Atlanta-Journal Constitution about his 2017 plans.

I have 35 more chapters of that done. I’m very excited about that. It will absolutely be out next year. I’ll tour if it’s a major deal, but if not I might just chill and just finish writing my movie scripts.

There you go. If this Apple Music edition of Trapped in the Closet doesn’t pan out, R. Kelly will keep busy writing movies. Sylvester and Twan could carry a movie, eh?
