Swedish singer/songwriter Tove Lo dropped another edgy new single on Friday, this time a collaboration with rapper Wiz Khalifa called “Influence.” Earlier this summer, she released “Cool Girl” and we’re starting to get a sense that her upcoming album, Lady Wood, which comes out in October via Island Records, is going to be full of angsty, high-risk behavior that occasionally accompanies self-discovery and recklessly fun.
On “Influence,” Tove Lo sings about getting wasted and warning whoever will listen that she’s “under the influence/ so don’t trust everything I say/ Sounds good without making sense/ It’s a blur, but I want my way, my way.” And once again, her emotional and seductive vocals kind of make chasing her down the rabbit hole seem enticing — and she clearly wants you to make bad decisions, too, as the song starts off with “First line, take mine.”
Though the song certainly still reigns in pop territory, the verse with Wiz Khalifa gives it more dimension as he chimes in as the object of her substance-fueled affection.
