“Good Mornian…” – ‘Ye-Tudda
put this on disc and now I’m ready to roll….
so far, so good…this cat is fresh
oh yeah…L.A. Baby!
I’m honestly giving him an open-minded shot this weekend, we’ll see how it goes.
Still still don’t believe the hype tho.
^hmmm….I thought I posted 2nd…I’ll take that 1st post! lol
shall we resume the mixtapes vs. albums discussion started in that Block Obama post…?
Gotty: “I don’t even get amped for albums as much as i do mixtapes, only b/c i know there’s gonna be more substance to the mixtape.”
I’m calling it now: Wale’s mixtape > Wayne’s Carter III album
I wouldn’t be surprised teef.
Not in the least.
Wale – “The Crazy (Nick Catchdubs Remix)”
(over the classic beat used for “Tried By 12” by East Flatbush Project)
I’m not even gonna cue it up first. I may let this joint marinate & then listen to it on like Sunday lol.
currently listening to…
Fuck Aquemini. I swear I don’t even see how these two come anywhere near each other b/c this disc is so damn thoro
@ Gotty: Finally, you’ve seen the light!!! ATLiens rules!!! lol!!!
@ Estelle’s Grill: Wale vs. Weezy??? No comparison mayne!!! Wale all day yo, that’s like a Ferrari to a Honda.
@ T-Dot: Ahhh my fellow Northerner, don’t sleep on Wale my ninja. I doubted him at first too, then I heard the “100 Miles & Running Mixtape” and right then and there I was converted. Dude is dope, trust dat.
bouncers quickly usher Sir G towards safety before tomatoes are thrown. Repeatedly ask did he drink the purple Kool-Aid. lol
must be the syrup
Aquemini is a whole diff cosmo-sounding shit compared to ATLiens, which is deep-fried Southern funk all the way thru.
I don’t even know how people fuss over these two.
It is not. Once you get accustomed to the tracks, you’ll see they’re all pretty conventional
Awww shi-et, not Outkast again…
After all these years, I’m accustomed.
ATL has tracks that led into Aque…but w/my ears & sound mind, I’m saying ATL trumps that motherfucker easily lol.
I just ain’t say it last weekend b/c I wanted yall to argue about it w/o me weighing in. The whole time I was thinking “these chimps must be crazy thinking that this quasi-techno, quasi-P-Funk sounding shit comes anywhere near some real Southern Hip-Hop like ATLiens.”
Outkast with heavy Organized Noize production > all others.
No disrespect to the boy, Wale…
ATLiens=Favorite OutKast album
Aquemeni=Best OutKast album
,,,,no fuss at all.
But wasn’t “Southernplayalistic…” Your #1 pick?
Aquemini. All day.
“these chimps must be crazy thinking that this quasi-techno, quasi-P-Funk sounding shit comes anywhere near some real Southern Hip-Hop like ATLiens.”
thats funny as hell tho
That was Organized Noize and you can’t tell “West Savannah” or “Aquemini” ain’t got that dirty South flow. And the subject matter? Just about every song on ATLiens is like a freestyle session. They actually crafted songs that have been discussed for the past decade on Aquemini. Easily the better album whether you can pop it in and ride around to it or not. It’s bigger than that.
He didn’t contradict that, but that would prolly make Aquemini his #3???….
Wellllll, alrighty then……
*sniffs purple kool-aid just to make sure*
^ that was @ Amp btw
rosa parks+art of storytelling=some of the best ish i’ve ever heard
btw, i was watching some camp lo earlier…they sho love some donald goines
*grabs a straw & joins OED in a ski session*
“Nigga, pass the purple…”
good looking (as usual) on the links for Wale. something to ride to while i’m doing my Big Brother mentoring thing this weekend with these bad ass kids.
That’s a very admirable deed, Homie. Nothing beats a positive Male role model in a kids life.
TC – I could be wrong but I think lot more of ATL was Organized.
I love TSS
chimps, ski sessions, etc, etc, w/ a good dose of intelligence sprinkled in for coherence >>>> cup of coffee
word, big ups Ghost…
I’ve always TALKED ABOUT doing that, but never have…. OED is still for the children like Wu-Tang, but props indeed.
im gonna go one step further than proclaiming mixtape about nothing > carter 3
i can see wale being the new “jay-z” in terms of who is on top of the game.
give him an album.
jay electronica = new nas
i can see wale being the new “jay-z” in terms of who is on top of the game
Whoa, let’s not get too ahead of our selves just yet….I say let Him put out a classic album 1st.
@ Sir G & TC
Organized Noize produced 4 tracks on Aquemini.
Just looked at the liner notes.
Return Of The G
Skew It On The BBQ
^ How many they have on ATLiens?
If it’s more than 4, I stand by my choice.
I told TC this via email…
“They’re so diff. One sounds more traditional while the other sounds like an experiment of sorts. ATL = more akin to Kast’s roots & Big Boi. Aque = more Dre coming into his own, steering their direction & a precursor to The Love Below.”
Whoa, let’s not get too ahead of our selves just yet….I say let Him put out a classic album 1st.
10 Organized Noize tracks on ATL
The 10th is on the Elevators RMX at the end, so 9 or 10 depending on how you look at it. I say they got paid for 10, so 10…
so 10 out of 15 tracks on ATL, and 4 out of 16 on Aquemini.
One thing I will admit, ONP used to go in on the producion tip. WTF happened? Their output nowadays is limited to the R&B single here or the throwaway Bubba Sparxxx joint there. They need to find a new muse & a young spitter worthy of their production talents cause I miss that distinctive southern boom bap they used to lace ‘Kast & GOODie Mob with.
@ OED & Amp…(steps on soapbox) i implore you cats that if you have a few hours here and there on at least 1 Sat a month…to reach out to your local chapter of Big Brothers Big Sisters and get involved. shit is mad easy and makes a world of difference to these kids. males…especially black males…are so lacking in the volunteering effort that i’m sure you’d be welcomed with open arms. real talk.
think of it this way: a little time here and there with a lil mofo from around the way will help them appreciate the finer things in life….like real hiphop. the more youngun’s up on good music will cut down on some of the bullshit we here nowadays…hopefully.
off jump, my lil homies know that when we’re riding out that they’re not listening to the radio in my whip. i definitely try not to play them songs with too much cursing in it (which can be hard since i typically never fuck with censored songs) but a lot of them dig them “songs that kanye, jay, etc. sampled”. the original tracks always blow their fucking minds. like music ain’t exist before they were born and shit…haahha.
now tomorrow….in Ghost’s class, we’ll be studying Wale as well as a lil GoGo since dude used to rap over it a lot in his first few mixtapes.
I work w/kids daily & have for nearly a decade. At times it’s trying & a fuckin headache, but rewarding in many ways as well.
Andre & Big Boi did 7 tracks on Aquemini… that was like their production coming out party.
They only did 4 tracks on ATL….
I miss that distinctive southern boom bap they used to lace ‘Kast & GOODie Mob with.
The Dungeon Family collective was the sh******t.
I USED TO work w/ kids when I was in and out semesters back in the college daze, and I got just as much out of it as I think they might’ve. A lotta them rugrats made it to college and most stayed outta trouble.
I think when my daughter gets older and I get a little bit more time to chop it up w/ em, I’ma get back to that, for real.
I’m busy tryin to be a positive role model fo My little Girl as well. But as someone who was raised in “The Hood” & had His Pops around as well as a couple of Mentors (both white & black) to help guide Me as I was coming up, I definitely realize the importance of strong role models in a young Kid’s life . Hopefully, in a couple years, I’ll be in a better position to pass on whatever knowledge/life experience I have to someone who needs it.
ATL – 9-10
Aque – 4
End game for me. Carry on w/your opinions but mine is firm lol.
Remember, this is MY opinion. It doesn’t have to be yours.
Wale is talented and increddibly MARKETABLE (unlike say Saigon, Jay Electronica, Papoose, etc).
I am predicting some major success and some MAJOR hate (ie Wale sold out!!!!) once his album on Interscope drops.
once everybody catch on to Wale, the Kanye comparisons will never end
I like Dude, but He hasn’t done anything yet to compare Him to any of the greats.
potential is a fancy French word meaning:
ain’t done sh*t yet
I haven’t even gotten through this mixtape yet & He’s already been crowned “The Next Hov”. There better be some hot shit on this mixtape.
fuck that gotty… i used to like you too.
I woke up early to get a copy of this mixtape.
“Its 2 o’clock time for our morning staff meeting” -Debra Evil
Here we go again with the outkast battle. Its like choosing your favorite kid. You know you have one,
*looks at Aquemini*
but you love them all equally.
*looks at the rest of the outkast albums*
ATLiens all day. Aquemini as a whole probably has a better concept.
Big props on this Wale tape. im one of those select few who been waitin patiently since for this since the day i saw the cover/heasrd the concept….
is that eastside flatbush remix on this mixtape? that beat is soooo dope, but i dont want oubles on my comp.
that’s my vote. tally it up.
thats funny, i listened to this (Wale), the first thing at work this morning (layed back job), then listened to ATLiens right after it. but for me its still aquemini > ATLiens
The Feature Heavy Song f. Bun B, Pusha T and Tre of UCB
Role call – The Kramer Song
ATLiens for me. I can’t even make it through Aquemini very easily…it’s all over the place
This was the first time I actually gave Wale a good listen. His vocal tone at times is reminiscent of Kanye, but he is definitely way more lyrical. So far is comparisons to Wayne, I think Wale is two steps ahead probably because he doesn’t hold on to them styrofoam cups. He crushes these two comparisons on the track “The Vacation From Ourselves” where he talks about his likeness to other rappers and being original. This mixtape is better than most of these aggins albums!
yall niggas haterS
NIGGAS IN THE STREET FUCK WIT WALE
