For days I’ve been biting my lip, wanting to post something on Willie Randolph’s “classless” firing from the New York Mets. As TSS’s resident Met fan, I didn’t say jack as the Boston Celtics championship win was clearly the better sports story and the complete opposite of depressing. If I had hair to pull out, I think I would have.
Now after the dust has settled and new manager Jerry Manuel has taken the reins, he didn’t fuck around and let the players know he is the man in charge. On Tuesday night in the first inning, Mets shortstop Jose Reyes was removed from the game by Manuel, seemingly from a possible injury. Livid, Reyes throws his helmet down and bitches like Kanye on an award snub. Manuel takes Reyes to the stadium tunnel and utters the illest shit on earth, which he later told to reporters:
“I told him the next time he does that, I’m going to get my blade out and cut him, right on the field. Hey, I’m a gangsta now. You go gangsta on me, I’m gonna have to get you now.” [Newday]
Now this is the whole reason for the post and I will nominate this for best sports quote of 2008.
As a result, the sports blogs went nuts and pictures like this pop up…

In New York sports media, you have to have thick skin to deal with the press. For music journalists/bloggers like us – we applaud those who tell it like it is.
More like Boss status.
